PROGRAM OVERVIEWWelcome to the program overview page for the Copyediting online training modules. Our offerings are designed to help people with good instincts become good editors, and to help good editors reinforce their skills and fill in the gaps in their knowledge. The years 2008 and 2009 are developmental ones for our program, with modules being beta-tested and then going live at a rate of at least one per month. This page presents an outline of the program plan. The following is a list of our training categories. Click on a category to go directly to the listing of modules in that category.
ABOUT CERTIFICATION We will offer three levels of certification: module-level (upon completion of each module); subject-level (upon completion of a set of subject-specific modules); and full certification (upon completion of a copyediting certification program). Available now: Complete any number of modules you wish, as and when you need them. Each completed qualifying module can count toward eventual certification. You don’t need to take the modules in a particular order or commit to the full certification program up frontAvailable by the end of 2008: Complete a set of modules within a subject area (e.g., grammar, punctuation, resources). Copyediting will certify your completion of training in each specialty area. Sets of modules will be developed to support the plan to offer full certification in 2009. Available by the end of 2009: Complete the modules required for professional copyediting certification. The certificate program will prepare you to work on copy for magazines, journals, and books, and in corporate communications. TRAINING MODULES Currently available modules appear in ORANGE type.
